I do not know

I am just going to ramble on and on about nonsense I suppose. Lets talk about this vodcast. I made a great, funny and creative video about signature dance moves, like the lawn mower, the lightbulb, fist pump, the Qtip and many others with my friends. They were such good sports participating in my video as I narrated how to use these dance moves to impress people at your upcoming holiday party. Now heres the problem, after much planning and re-takes, it is taking an enternity to upload it to youtube. The video is only about 3 minutes but it is loading a percent every like 12 hours.. Any suggestions, would be appreciated. I would ramble on about Kean University and the disorganization of this University, but God knows that would like about 45 blogs and aboout 32 hours to do, so to spare your time as well as mine I have talked about my Vodcast. Content of the course. Activities we did. Object: Tell or help figure out how to make this is a better course. We have readings, assignments, ( Presentations, wikipedia, blogs, reflective essay, hypertext essay) Kinds of thigns we did in class ( electronic literature sites and look around on internet for flashmobs) Whatyou liked best/least. What would you like more of/ less of .Do you feel prepared to do whatever you need to do with "writing for cyberspace"

When I first started this class I did not know what to expect. I knew of some things about the internet but nothing to serious. I knew how to work the internet when it came to surfing the internet and using certain programs. I liked reading the material because it gave me insight to different things that contribute to the internet and how it got started as well as things that contrubute to it to make it work. I learned alot from the readings compared to if we didnt have the readings I dont think i would have learned as much. We used the readings to discuss things in class which I gained more knwoldge about every week. As always, like last semester, i like doing the blogs.l It is more managable to see what I have done and reflect on what I have written. I am able to keep up to date with my blogs and also keep track of the grades I have recieved for the blogs. I liked doing the Wiki assignment because I didnt know how Wiki worked until I was forced to do it. I got frustrated alot of times and wanted to give up but because I knew I needed the grade and needed to finish it, I ended up learning a whole lot more then I actually thought that I would! The presentations were also very informative. I like how groups went and presetned the readings. It was back up reinforcement that I needed and I also learned new insights through different groups presenting. I also liked presenting the website so I could have feedback. I was shy about the website because I have no idea what I was doing or what it was supposed to look like. I had a hard time with the hypertext essay. gathering an actual question, and then making a website out of it. I didnt have much of a question ready for the essay until i brainstormed alot and came up with something. Of course, making the website with blocked computer didnt help at all. I know alot have complained about it, it was annoying at first but when you understood and figured it out, it was all about putting your research into the website. I had a hard time writing the reflective essay. I didnt like the topics and I had a hard time gathering all the information from 7 sources to incorporate into the essay ontop of finishing up the hypertext essay. I felt like it was alot to do in a short amount of time. I know my essay and website could have been better if the time was organized a bit better.

What I liked best about the course was the readings and the Wikipedia site. I learned so much from the readings to what contributes to the making of the internet and things of that sort. I hated the wikipedia at first but when I saw how it all worked i loved it!

What I did not like was the reflective essay. I had a very hard time writing this although I read all the readings and understood the writings in detail. I think usuing 7 of them was a bit much but maybe because I felt I was under pressure with finishign the website and also doing that assignment.

I feel somewhat porepared to do things if someone asked what happens with the internet and how it works and what contributes to it. I can tell them how to make a website and what hyper attention is and deep attention. I can now tell what a cyber bully is.

I enjoyed this class and learned alot so thank you.

Free Blog

I am doing a blog about how much I have learned in this course. My website is going to be pink and black so it can stand out. It will have a simple plan for the site because it will be looked at my teachers, parents and kids. I do not want it to complicated due to the fact not everyone, inlcuding teachers, are on the same page when it comes to surfing the internet. On the left hand side it will have categories that you can click on to take you to that link. It will be like this:

Cyber Bullying

Statistics

What is Cyber Bullying? The impulses behind it are the same, but the effect is magnified. In the past, the materials of bullying would have been whispered, shouted or passed around. Now, with a few clicks, a photo, video or a conversation can be shared with hundreds via email or millions through a website, online profile or blog posting," writes Amanda Lenhart of Pew.http://www.fastcompany.com/blog/saabira-chaudhuri/itinerant-mind/cyber-bullying-its-not-about-sticks-and-stones

SO why do people cyber bully?

Cyber bullies can take advantage of the anonymity that the online interaction often offers. I used to be best friends with this girl and one night, me and my friends were just kind of, I don't know why, but we just decided to be kind of mean to her. We started calling her all these names and everything. After that, I regretted it… I tried to be her friend again, but she didn't want to because like she didn't want me to hurt her. So I guess I deserved it, but it made me feel really bad because I knew I shouldn't have done it"

Yup, this is a cyber bully. Wouldnt of thought huh?

"Although there is little research, it is a fact that Although it might be reasonable to assume that people who cyber bully have certain features in common with those who engage in traditional bullying (eg, more accepting of violence, little compassion), there are probably unique characteristics of those who cyber bully. Research shows that boys are more likely than girls to engage in traditional bullying (ie, physical and verbal acts that hurt another person, that happen repeatedly, and that make it difficult for the victim to defend himself or herself).1,9-13 Boys are also more likely than girls to engage in direct, physical forms of bullying whereas girls are more likely to engage in indirect forms of bullying (eg, ostracism and gossiping). Not surprisingly, girls (13%) more than boys (9%) report perpetrating cyber bullying—an indirect form of aggression.5 Importantly, more girls (25%) than boys (11%) report being targets of cyber bullying."

Heightened levels of social anxiety have been observed among perpetrators of cyber bullying.1 Furthermore, among individuals who cyber bully, those who do so most frequently report the highest levels of social anxiety.1 Importantly, however, even among respondents who frequently perpetrated cyber bullying, targets of cyber bullying still reported higher levels of social anxiety.
Source:http://www.psychiatrictimes.com/display/article/10168/1336550

Have you been cyber bullied? The kinds of media I engage with is, yes, the obvious TVand texting. My source of media is differernt dependding on my mood. I always wathced mature TV when I was even little. I enjoyed scary movies and talk shows but my mom used to see they were ok to watch first. This changed as i got older, i got to prewview it for myself. But mostly the same. I also do the following:
Blogger
Facebook
Gmail
TV
Music online
Texting

2.)Blogger- 45 mInutes- 1 Hour
Facebook- Depending on who or what I am stalking, 1 hour
Gmail- 30 minutes
Texting- um about 15 hours of my day
Wow I didnt realize that alot of times i make fun of facebookers and texter, but look now who is doing it. o god

3.) I always have to have a "background" noise so"
Composing a paper- Listening to music from my Itunes, Tv is on in the background 3
Study for an Exam- TV is on, but very quietly, more just for the visual 2
Conduct reseach- tv is on, music is on, i am scanning through the web 5
2+3+5= 10/3
= 3.3

4.)Drive- Listeninng to music and talking on the phone ( i know it is bad) 4
Eat a meal by yourself- TV is on or I am standing up eating quick to go to my next meeting or class...texting 5
Eat with family/Friends- tv is on...texting 5
Household Chores- Music is on, but then go browse if bored on facebook, watch some tv but still music is on...texting 4

O god. I shouldnt admit this but

4+5+5+4=18/4=4.50

5.)Watching Tv, texting or talking on the phone, browsing through facebook or gmail

SCALE 5

a. In which category were you most likely to use hyper attention? in which category were you most likely to use deep attention? Or do you seem to have a consistent style (all hyper or deep attention)? How would you explain this?

The cateogy that I was most lkely to use hyper attention would be the section of me relaxing. I am the biggest multi tasker around when it comes to doing nothing. I see it as an everyday things where I just hang around, and text n go on facebook while watching tv and talking on the phone.. No Biggy

The deeper attention would be studying for a test because I need more concentration for that but I still have hyper attention because I am not compltely surrounded by silence. Most people are not able to study with people talking in the background, but living on campus for a while, I have become accustomed to it and when I study now I cant do it in complete silence. it makes me go crazy

I guess its all on how yor grew up in a sense that your study skills or your work skills how you have adapted to your enviroment. What do you do to relax? Some people dont own a cell phone and will sit in silence reading a book. I think it all depends on the person.

b. In which category was there the largest range of numbers ( for example, some activities rated 1, some rated 5). Can you explain why the range might be large for this category

Section 3 I think was the largest range of number but then agian it is all how you study. My boyfriend cannot study for an exam unless there is music blasting! I on the other hand can study with background noise but only until a certain level. Conducting research is something that you go and do on your own pace. So you can have music blasting or you can have silence.

c. In which category did you have the most consistent style? Why do you think this is so?

The most consisten style would be my free time. It is whatever I am doing to relax and it doesnt matter what i have to do. I just do it

7. How would you characterize yourself in terms of patterns for attending? Do these numbers reflect how you would characterize yourself (in terms of attention)? What correlations or inconsistencies do you see between your feeling about how you think and these numbers? Can you explain them?

This exercise made me realize what I do when I study and I ask myself if this is the correct way to do it but then aigan its been working for years so i guess it is. Anything that you google, a wikiepdia article is most likely to pop up at first glance. I have always noticed the articles have been kinda weird and off on some, now I know why. I learned through this experience that people may edit the articles and the article may even be deleted. I now know why some articles make no sense or when I go to recover the research it is no longer there.

I put up my post on Wikipedia.org on Cyber Bullying. I thought this was a great topic to do since we read "Friend Game" and I was highly interested in it. I wanted to relate it to school and teaching and do a resource section for the topic.

I started playing around with it seeing what I could do and how I could do it and how long some nonsense would stay up. I posted something about diferent website that have stuff about cyberbullying and it stayed for maybe a day. So, then I knew what I needed to do and how to do it. I did my research and post the section " Resources for Teachers" This included Role playing and lesson plans to see if you have a cyber bully or if someone is being cyber bullied. It included terms that are used for cyber bullies so you are able to see example and what to look for.

I had this going for about 2 weeks until it was taken down. It was replaced with another sub-topic then I noticed I could no longer edit it. I started freaking out because I didnt know why. I then looked on the top riht corner to notice a lock on it. It was olive. I clicked on that and noticed it said that this page was move-protected. This means that the administators put a lock on it.

The page was re-directed. There was two pages of this topic.
1.) Cyber-bullying
2.) Cyberbullying

There must have been people posted and moving infrmation of both when the adminstrators said ENOUGH and protected it so that you could no longer post anything or edit anything. I learned that pages can be protected and some can be blocked or deleted. This was a good experience even though I didnt think it was at first. I just thought Wiki hates me but I came to find that I had an actual good outcome even though my page did not stay up.

User name: Nicole7786646

My Post:
Resources for Teachers
Cyberbullying could be happening in your classroom without you even knowing.Recent reports indicate that more than half of students have been the targets of cyberbullying, while almost eighty percent are aware that it is happening online.(www.fightcrime.org).It is important for educators become aware of the warning signs and can attack the issue when it arises with certain lesson plans and ideas. There are many forms that cyberbullying can take. (http://www.cyberbully.org/cyberbully/docs/cbcteducator.pdf) Some example are:

Flaming. Online fights using electronic messages with angry and vulgar language
Ex: Joe and Alec’s online exchange got angrier and angrier. Insults were flying. Joe warned Alec to watch his back in school the next day.

Harassment. Repeatedly sending nasty, mean, and insulting messages
Ex:Sara reported to the principal that Kayla was bullying another student. When Sara got home, she had 35 angry messages in her e-mail box. The anonymous cruel messages kept coming—some from complete strangers.

Denigration. “Dissing” someone online. Sending or posting gossip or rumors about a person to damage his or her reputation or friendships.
Ex:Some boys created a “We Hate Joe” Web site where they posted jokes, cartoons, gossip, and rumors, all dissing Joe

Trickery. Talking someone into revealing secrets or embarrassing information, then sharing it online.
Ex:Katie sent a message to Jessica pretending to be her friend and asking lots of questions. Jessica responded, sharing really personal information. Move protection is commonly applied to:
Pages subject to persistent page-move vandalism.
Pages subject to a page-name dispute.
Visible pages that have no reason to be moved, such as the Administrators' noticeboard.
Fully protected pages are also move-protected. If a protected page is moved by an administrator, the page will be protected at the new location, but the redirect remaining at the original location will not be protected.
As with full protection, administrators should avoid favoring one name over another, and protection should not be considered an endorsement of the current name. An obvious exception to this rule is when pages are protected due to page move vandalism.

Sample

Education and Technology
Benefits
Microphone units
Leanring issues=pedogogy
Zone of Prximal Delevepment- students make more autonomous?

What kinds.levels oif technology will jumpstart- why do some work and not others> what makes succesful technologies work?

CYBERBULLYING
Statement of purpose
Benefits:
Defend yourself
Practice for how to say things
changes the playing field

Statement of purpose ( what you hope to show/discover)

Detailed staement of your research questions
List of the inforation you need to gather
A prelimary list of sources
Plan for gathering your info

Wiki Lookout

Well... i was doing SOOOO well... until yesterday. THis is how the worlds works as well as the "cyber" space world and not to many people think of it that way, but it is.

1.) The features to the internet are totally producer and consumer. Look at online shopping for exmaple. Many people around Christmas time, or anytime busy shopping season do not want to wait in long lines at the mall so they simply log on and shop. Producer ( internet shopping) and you ( the buyer) ANother example is the upcoming online dating websites such as Match.com. These sites have had positive results and there for are producer and consumer websites. Producer ( Match.com) and consumer ( you the prospective looker for love) Produsage connects to the internet in so many ways that internet users do not even realize they are part of the producer/consumer relationship of the world because they are so busy online looking for love or shopping!

2.)As Lankshear and Knobel discussed, there are different mindset and discourses. People either belong to one or the other. The first mindset is the way one thing is and how we learn to be. We orginally learned what producers and consumers were from school and through the advances of the internet, we learned how to use this as a resource to do our shopping and what not.The second is how we act in other settings such as school or clubs or anywhere outside of your actual life.An explane of produsage is someone who belongs to an online group according to what you like or what you have learned. for exmaple, a person who loves dvds could log on to Amazon.com and join a chat group about a certian movie, then buy it.

3.)Remediation- There are so many options on ther internet for us to take the chance to be the producer or consumer.Through a cell phone produage is being used. We are the producers because we are typing and sending the message. The person we are sending it to are the consumers.

4.)Flashmobs sis also another reading in which produsage deals with. The producer ( the perosn organizing the flashmob) starts this meeting or plan to the consumers ( the person recieiving the message where to meet and what to do and what time) so then then everything takes effect and then it is in play. We can look at this as produsage because agian this is the producer and consumer.

5.)Wikipedia is an amazing collabration of information that the noral, general public can put up for others to see and get information. It is amazing that the average joe can give me research on Pizza and i can inlcude this in a research paper. Thanks JOe!.. ;) .. This agian is an example of produsage because I am the consumer because i am taking info that Joe put up and Joe is the producer because non of the "WIki Guards" ripped it down in 5 minutes ( sorry i am still a little upset over my beautiful posting that got taken down in 2 minutes)..

.... so therefor this is all exmaple of produsage and agian i am learning so much about all of this! I cannot believe I didnt see before how pretty much everything on the iternet is producer and consumer aspect.

I am going to do Cyber Bullying for my wikipedia post. I feel that i can contribute to this page in many ways although it had alot of information on it already. I want to specifically do
How to Manage Cyber Bullying in your classroom

As of now, I have not seen much of anything for teachers and how to deal with this in your classroom. I know alot of children could have problems in or out of school with this and feel this post might help many teachers. i want to include lesson plans, role playing and how to deal with a cyber bully. I want to add onto the video sction for cyberbullies after i do extensive research.

I want my addition to posts to also have a shock value with children who have committed suicide because they have been cyber bullied. This is awful and people need to be educated about this issue so it can stop, especially parents and teachers to how they can look for signs before it is to late.

I know watching movies do help educate but for children i feel it is necessary for them to know this really happens, so for this i want true stories of children who have ended their life because of the pain people have put them in because of cyber bullying.

The refrences i want to use are:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MxxqcH_Mkc - the megan meier story

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDBiqUWRtMo- Ryans Story, father of a boy at age 13 who couldnt take the bullying anymore

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C72HuIx0BA&feature=related- video with stastics and facts

Lesson plans for teachers for cyber bullying :http://remoteaccess.typepad.com/remote_access/2009/02/lesson-plans-on.html

Wikipedia Name

My wikipedia name is Nicole7786646

Blog 7 Flashmobs

Ok, so i thought Text Novels was weird but so interesting, NO WAY. Flasmobs by far beat this. So, lemme get this right. One person thinks of this unusual beahvior or act. Say..at a certain time on a certain day.. you are to freeze in whatever you are doing..lets say it is Feb 25, 2009 at 6:00 pm and you are to freeze for one minute.. I am out and about doing some errands on Feb 25, 2009 and I am about to pay for a gallon of milk and handing over the money BAM 6:00 pm, flashmob time. I am frozen for one minute... with the other 100's maybe even thousands of people doing this weird thing. But, how does a flashmob get started? How does it get spread?

This all started in 2003 by this guy names Bill who wanted to start this by having people gather in Macys rug department to make decisions and other people other places and it was crazyness. I think this is insanely smart. He did this to show comformity and how people want to be part of something big.

When thinking about print and how it might correspond to the communities that underpin flashmobs I think of someone putting a little ad or something in a section that it wouldnt be seen to the naked eye, youd actually have to read that section to find it. I am sure someone looking through the singles ad thoroughly would spot this. They then spread the word..so on. But lets say we dont have pen and paper or newspaper and we have technology. Chain link emails are always sent, except this would be a chain link flashmob. One person makes the amil and sends it to everyone they know who sends it to everyone they know and so on. The same with a text message. If i sent this text to everyone in my phone I am sure someone would send it to someone else. After all, people always send those chain texts that i love geting so much.. not really.

Digital communications could changed like i have mentioned above in these communications because in one simple text you can have a group of people. For example I could send a text to a bunch of people and I want to have a flashmob thing at 3:00 with some girls by the clock tower. I could send a text to alot of people and at 3;00 i have the people meeting at the clock tower all because of one text. If a flashmobber didnt have email or pen or paper and just a phone they could send that flashmob text to everyone in his phone book and the recievers could then send it to all their contacts and so on. This could be one HUGE flashmob.

As for the future, technology is always changing so i think flashmobs could be a bigger thing one day because it will be easier for people to get the message.. This is so exciting to learn about!

Final Draft of Narrative. I wasnt sure if we post or send as attachment so i did both

In today’s age it’s normal to see a ten year old carrying around a brand new Blackberry or Voyager. He or she is able to quickly find the buttons and text their friends back quickly as well as look at their favorite website on their phone. They then whip out their laptop and start researching something they want while talking to their friends online. They have a couple screens open, while texting on their phone, and keeping up to date with the new technology. I look down at my phone that is the size of a cordless house phone and think how much more advanced kids much younger then me really are. I wonder often if they value books as much as the internet and how this affects their use of language as they grow into this modern day society.

When I was a child, reading a book was at great value for my family because it was a way in which my mother knew my reading skills were up to par and I was actually learning through what I was reading. Every fall in elementary school, they would hold a program for a read-athon. In every hallway there were charts for each classroom with each students name on it. Every time a student would read a book it would be marked onto a paper in which your parent would sign and send into school with the student. The student would then be marked onto the chart onto the wall for the whole school to see. At the end of the read-athon they school would hold an award program and for every student who read over a certain amount of books. The student would receive an award in front of the school as well as your parents who are in the audience. I can remember wanting to read so many books just to have my name on the chart so you could tell your friends how many books you have read and how far you are on the chart. I felt like when I received my award that my mom was always so proud of me because I would look at her and she had a huge smile on her face. I knew that reading all these books not only made me empower more knowledge but I knew it made my mom feel as if she had accomplished something of being a good mother throughout my education process. This program helped me in so many ways want to read and it had an incentive to make me read. This was my first impression of print reading. I valued it high and still do.

I can remember being in elementary school and going to the school library for the first time. I remember walking in smelling the stale air of library books that have been around for years. I sat down and looked around thinking how many books there were and how it was almost overwhelming at the thought of me reading every single one that was in this library. I would ask myself where all these books came from and how many people took out these books to read. I would look at the back of the book as to who were to sign the book out and if a lot of people singed it out I knew it was going to be an amazing book. I learned that first day in the library how to use the card catalog which was difficult for me at first but after time I understood the importance of this system. Every week I would go to the library and take out books. I would engulf myself in reading fantasies and mysteries while escaping my real life. I would be in a castle one moment slaying the dragon and the next day I was riding away with my prince charming on a white horse into the sunset. Reading these books I could be anyone I wanted or be anywhere I wanted in the book.

As I grew up, the importance of reading a good book became less significant. I began harder classes in school where I was told to research online for certain assignments. I was told that assignments or reading assignments would be sent to my e-mail where I could open them and do them from the there and then re send it to the teacher. I felt that mostly everything I was doing in classes had to do with the internet in some way. I valued print highly which I still do today but I feel that this generation may have a problem with their language when writing a paper or even talking in an intellectual way.

Looking at research on the internet may be false where as if it is printed in a book it is more likely to be true and accurate. The way things are written on the internet may also give the person a false sense of how to write language as well as how that person should write it into a paper. It may make them believe things that are not true and in result have the student get a lower grade on that research. Print material normally has correct language and correct information. Print material is also always at hand. You may print out a paper and have it on you at any time to hand it. When you e-mail a document you question if the person received it or did it not go through. If the letter is meant to be more personal I believe that print should be used. E-mails can be less personal and some people may read them quickly and not get that personal touch.

My first encounter with the internet would be AOL which a lot of people my age would probably agree was theirs as well. I can remember sneaking downstairs after my parents went to sleep to get on to talk to all my friends about the events that took place that say at school. I would stay on very late and be exhausted the next day for school. I can remember the dial up tone on the modem being so loud I would cover it so my parents wouldn’t hear it. I came to find out later in life, my mom could always log on and see when the last time I was on. The whole time I thought I was getting away with being on AOL all the time when my mom knew every time I was on and off. Damn technology.

My next digital experience would be a cell phone with text messaging. I know I text more on the phone then I do talk on it. I try to text as if I was writing a letter because if I use short hand it sometimes shows up when I am writing a paper or something important. I am afraid this will happen to the next generation. I understand that language changes all the time. We have had Old English, Middle and Modern English throughout time but all are respected. The English some kids are using today some people may think are ignorant. If this language is continued throughout a period of time then this may be the new language which may not be respected and people may not take language as serious as it should be taken.

Society will mostly run on technology and it will be more used then just plain old books. I am afraid libraries will no longer be of use and may close. The reading programs in schools will diminish and school libraries will be turned in computer labs. The students will then ask what a library was and what it used to be used for. Going into the teacher profession I hope this is a question I will never have to encounter. If the internet is down and research cannot be compiled then students won’t be able to conduct their research at all. This is why we need books and why print is so effective and useful.

I do give the internet a lot of credit but I do not think that it should be used for everything. I value print such as books and such very highly. I understand many people, mostly older, have a hard time with computers but society makes it necessary for the older people to learn. Although the internet is useful, convient and quick speed it is not the answer to all the questions one may have. I do use the computer a lot in which I respect but I do value print more and it has made me a more literate person and student of the 21st century.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://nicmacs.blogspot.com/2009/02/final-draft-of-narrative-i-wasnt-sure.html' title='Final Draft of Narrative. I feel i can relate to this topic because in middle school this happened to a girl i knew and she would tell me how she would feel when this happened but didnt know who was doing it. I saw people whispering in the hallway when she walked by and people were making up nasty things about her. I felt so bad because i didnt know who were doing it either. she came into school one day with a conversation she was had the night before with a cyberbully and the conversation made me upset to see the things they were writing to her. These cyber bullies even went as far as making a website all about this girl to write anything people wanted about her. it was horrible. After a couple of weeks of her parents trying to get to the bottom if it and figure out who was doing this, the girl left to go to another school. To this day i still do not know who did this but it upset me to the point i still , years later remember it like it was yesterday.

I would like to do my wikipedia on cyberbullying for a couple of reasons. 1. I want to know more about the subject because i feel i am not as knowledgable of this as i could be. 2. reading "Friend Game" made me realize that this is a serious thing and it gets so bad sometimes that someone actually killed themself 3. i am going into teaching and want to discuss this or have a lesson plan because by the time i start teaching, the internet is going to be more advanced then it is today. I want to come up with ways in helping children who are being bullied as well as stop the bullying from the other person on the other side of computer. I feel that if i do this one wikipedia i may help other teachers who are looking for recources to do this in their classroom bc so many are going to have to deal with bullying issues not onlyin the classroom but now with the internet. I know cyberbullying with effect these kids who come into school everyday. they will develop low self esteem and not like many people. i dont want that and i am sure other teachers dont either. I also want to include Megan from the article we read so that way my site will have a major impact onpeople who read it. it will have shock value and will mean so much more.

..Essay

This program helped me in so many ways want to read and it had an incentive to make me read. This was my first impression of print reading. I valued it high and still do.

When you e-mail anything you question if the person received it or did it not go through. If the letter is meant to be more personal I believe that print should be used. E-mails can be less personal and some people may read them quickly and not get that personal touch.

I know in today’s age I text more on the phone then I do talk on it.

I think that literacy will be constant with generations but since some literacy’s are so new some older people don’t know how to use them. As time goes on and the older people pass away, the generation after that will have some knowledge about the technologies today. When that generation passes then the next generation is more knowledgeable about technology and will know what to do with it. Society will mostly run of technology and it will be more used then just plain old books. I am afraid libraries will no longer have use and may close.

I understand many people, mostly older, have a hard time with computers but society makes it necessary for them to learn. Although the internet is useful, convient and quick speed it is not the answer to all the questions one may have. I do use the computer a lot in which I respect but I do value print more and it has made me a more literate person and student of the 21 century.

Blog 3

Lankshear and Knobel's in my opinion was an interesting article. It was lengthy and had alot of different concepts in it, but if you take time to read it and try to grasp the material you can find alot of new ideas that you do not know before, like i did.

I agree with their charecterizations of their minsets when it is about print versuses digital mindets. To me, this is like saying old vs more modern. When you examine it, you find the first mindset that the world is just like it used to be thought out modern-idustrial period but now it has new technoliges with in it. The second minset assumes that in todays world it is very different then years ago. I think this all depends on the age of the person thinking about these mindsets. If i were older I might have the first mindset, but since i am younger i do have the second mindset.

In the section, Socioculture definitions of literacy"which talks mostly about different types of literacy in which weblogging or even ebay is in this consideration. I thought it was insane how certain people can auction off their souls and bread, but I think this is incredibly interesting because I think this fits in with the digital minset that they were talking about. People with mindset 1 wouldnt probalby think this would ever happen or would say an excuse for it.

When I first started reading this article, dicourse immediately caught my eye, because I have always wondered why people talk differently according to their atmosphere or to who they are talking to. I now know why but I also know this is important to knw for when I start teaching.

Blog 2

The particular interests that caught my eye were Smart Mobs and Friend Game

Friend Game

This reading I have a particular interest in because this "internet bullying" happens everyday without people relizing it. Bullys hide behind computers saying harsh things to other people that they cant say to the victims face. They even go as far to make up a person, in this case, a guy named Josh Evans who is cute and says nice things at first then it happens to be classmates terrorizing the victim on the other side of the computer. This reading caught my attention because this story ended in death. This is a tragic story that could be prevented but in todays society we have many options for this to continue. I am going into the teaching profession and know this could happen right in my classroom. Someone could be interet bullied and this could have an effect of the person in the class room. I feel that now I should have somet ype of mangement or lesson to let the kids know that if this is happening there is help. Although some kids feel this isnt a big ordeal or "they are just saying that", in some cases this is a big deal. IT ruins peoples self esteem and can lead people to do the wrong thing.

FlashMObs

The name in itself is just interesting isnt it? Hm.. Flashmobs. What could this be? I asked myself that when I hear the name and when i looked into it, Reingold was a pretty msart person. He made this book to let people know of the technologicies that will empower the people.I am excited to read more into this and learn more about this. It caught me eye though because it was like someone who could tell the future, like in Wikapedia it mentions Orwells 1984, where he can relate things from government to scoiety which is pretty cool and thats kinda what this guy is doing but with technology. Cant wait!

Blog 1

This is my first time using google.docs. I was a bit confused at first when we started doing it. It made no sense that if I edit something, at that moment, another person can see it right away. I felt this was good and this was bad in a sense. If i messed something up, someone else could see my mistake instead of seeing the finished product. I was also very afriad of touching someones work and messing that up.. then what?

The features on the google.docs made it easier to collaborate because usually collaboration is done through e-mail or planning through a chat group. This can be used to say make a schedule with alot of people. For Ex: time slots to schdule a meeting. Instead of e-mailing everyone asking what time they want to meet, you simply post the time slots and have people fill in what time is good for them. This is also good for collabrating for an assignment like this. Everyone can have an input.

The difficulties i had with this software was adding in rows and colums to add to what others have said. As i mentioned before, I am afraid that I would mess someone elses work up that they worked hard on. So i felt i had to be extra careful.

The features I might add would be you cannot edit anything that you did not add. So I could only touch the work i put in but I cannot edit someone elses hard work.
